How it Works
How to Use the TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator
Step 1: Open the video. Likes, comments, saves, and shares are shown on the video itself, so this works for any public TikTok, not only your own. TikTok's analytics label saves as Favorites.
Step 2: Enter likes, comments, shares, and saves.
Step 3: Keep "Views" selected and enter the video's view count. Switch to "Followers" only if you need a number that is comparable with other platforms or with an influencer's media kit.
Step 4: The rate appears as you type, with the arithmetic shown. Click "Copy result" to save it.
TikTok Engagement Rate Formulas
- By views: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100. The standard on TikTok, and the one to use by default. It asks the right question: of the people who watched, how many reacted?
- By followers: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100. Common in influencer marketing because it lines up with how Instagram rates are quoted. On TikTok it is volatile, for the reason below.
Why Views Beat Followers on TikTok
Most TikTok viewing happens on the For You feed, where videos are shown to people based on predicted interest rather than who they follow. A video from an account with 2,000 followers can reach 500,000 people, and a video from an account with 500,000 followers can reach 2,000. Divide by followers and the first looks miraculous and the second looks dead, even if viewers responded to both in exactly the same way.
Dividing by views removes that distortion. It is also why a TikTok rate by followers can run well over 100%, which is not an error: it simply means more people engaged than follow the account.
What Is a Good Engagement Rate on TikTok?
TikTok rates by views tend to run higher than rates on other networks because liking is a single tap in a full-screen feed, so do not benchmark a TikTok number against Instagram or LinkedIn. Rates also drift down as a video's view count climbs, because wider distribution reaches less interested viewers. Compare each video against your own median, and compare creators against others with similar view counts. For current cross-platform context, see social media engagement: what the data says.
What Engagement Rate Misses on TikTok
TikTok's distribution leans heavily on watch behavior: how long people watch, whether they finish, and whether they rewatch. None of that is in an engagement rate. Check average watch time and the share of viewers who watched the full video in TikTok's analytics alongside this number. A video with a modest engagement rate and strong completion will often outperform the reverse.
How to Improve Your TikTok Engagement Rate
- Earn the first two seconds. Viewers decide almost instantly. Draft openers with the Hook Generator, set to TikTok.
- Give people a reason to save or share. How-tos, checklists, and anything someone would send to a colleague earn the interactions that carry the most weight.
- Ask a specific question. "What would you add?" beats "thoughts?" Reply to early comments, including with video replies.
- Post on a schedule your audience can learn. See the best time to post on TikTok and how to schedule TikTok posts.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate engagement rate on TikTok?
Add up likes, comments, shares, and saves, divide by the video's views, and multiply by 100. For example, 6,310 interactions on 92,000 views is a TikTok engagement rate of 6.86%.
Should I calculate TikTok engagement rate by views or followers?
Use views by default. TikTok shows videos mainly to non-followers through the For You feed, so follower count says little about how many people saw a video. Use followers only when you need to compare with rates quoted that way, such as in an influencer's media kit.
What is a good engagement rate on TikTok?
It depends on the formula and on how many views the video has. Rates by views usually fall as view counts grow, and TikTok rates run higher than on most other networks. Compare against your own median and against creators with similar view counts.
Can I calculate the engagement rate for someone else's TikTok?
Yes. Likes, comments, saves, shares, and views are all visible on public TikTok videos, so you can calculate the rate by views for any creator without access to their analytics.
Why is my TikTok engagement rate by followers over 100%?
Because reach on TikTok is not tied to follower count. When a video is shown to far more people than follow the account, interactions can exceed followers. It is a sign of wide distribution, not a calculation error.
Is the TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free, needs no account or TikTok login, and runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent anywhere.
