How it Works
How to Use the X (Twitter) Engagement Rate Calculator
Step 1: Open the post. Likes, replies, reposts, bookmarks, and the view count are all shown on the post itself, so this works for any public post, not only your own.
Step 2: Enter likes, replies, and reposts. Count quote posts with reposts. Add bookmarks if you want them included.
Step 3: Keep "Impressions" selected and enter the post's views. X uses the two words for the same number: the view count on a post is its impressions. Switch to "Followers" only to compare with rates quoted that way.
Step 4: The rate appears as you type, with the arithmetic shown. Click "Copy result" to save it.
X Engagement Rate Formulas
- By impressions: (likes + replies + reposts + bookmarks) ÷ impressions × 100. The standard on X and the default here. It measures how the people who saw the post responded.
- By followers: (likes + replies + reposts + bookmarks) ÷ followers × 100. Useful for comparing accounts of different sizes or matching an influencer's media kit. It swings widely on X, because a repost from a large account can put a post in front of many times your follower count.
Why Your Number Differs From X Analytics
X's own analytics also reports an engagement rate, and it will usually be higher than the one you calculate from public counts. That is because X counts every interaction with a post as an engagement: not only likes, replies, and reposts, but also link clicks, profile clicks, media views, and taps to expand the post. Most of those are invisible to everyone but the author.
Neither number is wrong. Use X's figure to track your own account over time. Use the public-counts formula when you want to compare against competitors or creators, since it is the only one you can calculate for them. Just never put the two side by side. For more on the underlying numbers, see tweet reach vs impressions and whether quote posts earn you impressions.
What Is a Good Engagement Rate on X?
Lower than you might expect. X is a fast, high-volume feed, and a large share of impressions come from people scrolling past, so rates by impressions are typically well below what the same content would earn on LinkedIn or Instagram. Rates vary with account size, whether the post has media or a link, and how much of the reach came from reposts. We analyzed a large sample of posts in our Twitter/X engagement data study, which is a better reference than any single benchmark. Your own median, calculated the same way each month, is the comparison that matters most.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you calculate engagement rate on X (Twitter)?
Add up likes, replies, reposts, and bookmarks, divide by the post's impressions (its view count), and multiply by 100. For example, 445 interactions on 21,000 impressions is an engagement rate of 2.12%.
Why is my engagement rate different from the one in X analytics?
X counts every interaction as an engagement, including link clicks, profile clicks, media views, and taps to expand a post. Those are not public, so a rate calculated from visible counts will be lower. Use one method consistently and do not compare the two.
What is a good engagement rate on X (Twitter)?
Rates on X are generally lower than on LinkedIn or Instagram because so many impressions come from fast scrolling. It varies with account size and post format, so compare against your own median first and against published studies that state their formula.
Are views and impressions the same on X?
Yes, for practical purposes. The view count shown on a post is the number of times it was displayed, which is what X analytics calls impressions.
Can I calculate the engagement rate for someone else's post?
Yes. Likes, replies, reposts, bookmarks, and views are public on every post, so you can calculate the rate by impressions for any account.
Is the X Engagement Rate Calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free, needs no account or X login, and runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter are not sent anywhere.
